We’ve been delivering meals on wheels for 10 years, and we know a hot lunch and a friendly face at the door can make all the difference, especially in winter. So this winter we’re trying something new in Hailsham.
Anyone can nominate a neighbour, friend or relative who’d benefit from a hot two-course lunch, and we’ll offer them 4 weeks at half price (£8.25 instead of £16.45), with a safe and well check at the door every day. Local donations help cover the cost, and we give up our profit on every one of these meals.
We’re a local business, not a charity, so every penny donated goes on these meals, and you can see the live totals below.

Nominate them for 4 weeks of freshly cooked, hot two-course lunches at half price, with a friendly safe and well check at the door every day.
Or help fund them: every £5 goes towards 3 half-price lunches.
Nominate someone in Hailsham
Know someone in Hailsham who'd really benefit from a hot lunch and a friendly face at the door this winter? A neighbour, a friend, a relative, or someone you help through your work – anyone can nominate.
- It's a trial in Hailsham (BN27 postcodes) only.
- A place is 4 weeks of hot two-course lunches at half price (£8.25 instead of £16.45), up to 10 people at a time, and only when donations cover it.
- We look at nominations every two weeks and offer places to those who need them most, not just whoever's first.
- We always ring the person themselves (or their family or carer) before offering a place.
- One place per household each winter. People who already have meals from us aren't part of the trial.
- Nominations are private: we never share names. Please don't name anyone in Facebook comments – use this form.
Worried someone isn't safe or isn't coping at all? Please also contact East Sussex Health and Social Care Connect on 0345 60 80 191 (or 999 in an emergency). A meal is no substitute for proper care.

Help fund the half-price meals
Places are only offered when donations cover them, so every £5 really does put hot lunches on someone's table.
How it works
A hot two-course lunch from us is normally £16.45. For people nominated in Hailsham it's half price: £8.25. It costs us about £9.95 to cook and deliver each meal, so:
| They pay (half price) | £8.25 |
| Your donations pay | £1.65 |
| We give up our profit (the rest of the discount) | £6.55 |
| Normal price | £16.45 |
We only offer places when donations cover them, every penny donated is spent on these meals, and the figures above come straight from our records. Meals on Wheels to You runs this as a local business: it isn't a registered charity, so Gift Aid doesn't apply.
